A new study looking at dietary guidelines from 85 countries has assessed how these guidelines enable, or rather hinder people’s health and the health of our planet. The findings present a pretty poor picture, every country studied was found to be overconsuming red and processed meat and lacking in fresh fruit and vegetables. The telling findings indicate that governments around the world are shying away from helping their populations to eat better diets that benefit both public health and the environment. As awareness of the climate impacts of the food we eat increases, it is clear there is a need for governments to ensure their guidelines are relevant to today’s issues.
