The Issue

Food waste is a serious problem. Around the world, a third of all food produced for human consumption is wasted. In Hong Kong, food waste accounts for around 30% of all municipal solid waste, amounting to 1.3 million tonnes food wasted every year.

Food Waste Bad Taste is a 6-week online programme designed to support hospitality and foodservice businesses to Target, Measure and Act on their food waste, as per WRAP‘s latest framework. This is in line with the government’s target to reduce food waste to landfill from about 3,600 tonnes to 2,160 tonnes per day (a reduction of about 40%) by 2022.

Food Made Good HK is calling on the industry to accelerate change by setting ambitious targets to reduce food waste, and work towards the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 to halve global food waste by 2030.
