A team of students and scientists from Yale have been looking into a theory that the increased adoption of app-based food delivery presents a unique opportunity to affect carbon emissions of the food sector. They point out that third-party food delivery apps offer a valuable opportunity to connect consumers to the knowledge they need to adopt a climate-friendly diet. Suggestions include the introduction of short in-app quizzes to help inform customers of the climate impact of their food, alongside carbon labelling on menus. As food-delivery apps continue to gain popularity over the next decade, integrating information about the climate impact of food options gives consumers power to make positive food choices, helping to address the impact the food sector has on carbon emissions.
